Mayor Goma saves woman from jumping off a bridge due to depression

TACLOBAN CITY - A 19-year-old woman who attempted to commit suicide Monday by jumping off a bridge was saved by rescuers led by Mayor Richard Gomez and personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine National Police in Ormoc City.

The woman who is said to be suffering from postpartum depression tried to jump off from a water pipe beside a bridge.

Witnesses said the woman was also experiencing marital issues since she just came from a barangay settlement with her husband.

The couple decided to separate but their seven-month baby was taken by her husband. Her current partner was allegedly asked by her family to leave her, which prompted the woman to go to a hanging pipe beside a bridge, which was at least 20 feet tall.

Her family tried to pacify her while the negotiation lasted for over two hours.

After the successful operation personally led by Mayor Gomez and Col. Ramil Ramirez, Ormoc City Police, the woman was brought by the rescue team to the hospital for treatment.
