Kim Seon-ho reaches 4 million followers on Instagram, talks about 'trending actor' tag

Korean actor Kim Seon-ho got another wonderful Christmas gift: He reached 4 million followers on his Instagram account as his popularity continued to rise.
He hit the 4-million milestone at 1:58 p.m. on Dec. 26, an increase of about 2.9 million Instagram followers from 1.08 million followers last Nov. 3, according to Social Blade. He earlier reached 3 million followers on Dec. 5. He gets an average of 1.4 million likes and 37,516 comments for each Instagram post.
This is in addition to his winning the rookie award for the Korean variety show “2 Days & 1 Night” season 4 at the 2020 KBS Entertainment Awards held on Dec. 24.
Kim Seon-ho’s newfound fame began when he starred in the Korean drama “Start-Up” together with Nam Joo-hyuk and Bae Suzy. The drama aired on tvN from October to December this year (also available on Netflix) and viewers fell in love with his role as Han Ji-pyeong.
Because of his popularity due to “Start-Up,” the 34-year-old star has been described as the “trending actor.”
“I think this nickname is too much for me. Thanks to a chance to have a great production and program, I have recently started appearing on TV a bit more often, since then the opportunity to reach the audience has increased,” he said, according to JTBC Plus.
He explained that “maybe that's why the number of people supporting me has gone up like that. Although I don't feel that I have become a ‘trending’ actor because my daily life has been still passing as usual, I'm shy and happy and grateful that more and more people recognize me whenever I walk on the road.”
About the increase in his Instagram followers, Kim Seon-ho said, “I also feel miraculous at the sudden soar in the number of SNS followers and I can't believe that I've filmed an advertisement recently.”
“I kept talking to myself that ‘It turns out an actor like me can also film an advertisement!’ Besides, I always think that this has happened because of the work and program that I have the opportunity to participate in, as well as everyone who has been supporting me. Thank you very much,” he said.
He praised drama co-stars Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk. He described Suzy as “an extraordinarily talented actress with admirable concentration” while Nam Joo-hyuk “is a talented actor and a docile younger brother.”
Besides acting in dramas, Kim Seon-ho is a regular cast member of “2 Days & 1 Night” Season 4. His next project is the play “Ice,” which will run from Jan. 8 to March 21 at Sejong Center S Theater in Seoul.
While some people expressed concern about him being in dramas and a variety show, Kim Seon-ho said, “I absolutely didn't think of it.”
“I once shared in a conference of ‘Start-Up’ that I need a certain period of time until audiences no longer see Kim Seon-ho in variety shows and Kim Seon-ho in dramas as one. I am worried and pressured more or less. But it turns out there are positive reviews of viewers who can realize the differences in entertainment show's image and that of dramas,” he said.
