Iloilo hospital placed on lockdown due to coronavirus infections

ILOILO CITY—A district hospital in Guimbal town, Iloilo province has been placed under lockdown after medical staff and personnel were infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Hospital Management Office (HMO) of the Iloilo Provincial government, which owns and manages the Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital, has been under lockdown since Thursday, December 24.

Based on HMO data, 13 nurses were infected by COVID-19. Two others, a nursing attendant and a hospital staff, had no idea where or how they got infected.

The 10-day hospital lockdown was meant to allow health authorities to conduct contact tracing, and subject those who may have had physical engagement with the 15 infected hospital staff to undergo swab testing and isolation.

The hospital lockdown was also meant to conduct disinfection in its premises.

As of December 25, there were 19 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Iloilo province.  This brought to 2,977 the number of COVID-19 cases in the 42 towns and component city of Passi.
