8 new COVID-19 cases, 8 recoveries reported among Filipinos abroad
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday said it has received reports confirming 8 new COVID-19 cases, 8 new recoveries , and no new fatalities among Filipinos abroad.Â

The DFA said this brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and recoveries to 12,828 and 8,341, respectively.
Data from the DFA also showed that of the 12,828 confirmed cases, 3,376 are undergoing treatment, 8,341 have recovered/discharged, and 911 died.
Of the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, 2, 647 are from Asia Pacific Region, 1,746 from Europe, 7,654 from Middle East/Africa and 781 from Americas.
In a statement, the DFA said it shall continue to keep track of the status of overseas Filipinos and stands ready to assist and facilitate repatriations, whenever possible.
Last December 20, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said COVID cases among overseas Filipino workers continue to be recorded daily with the highest number coming from the Middle East with 6,721 cases.
Citing reports from their foreign posts, the Labor department said there were actually 520 deaths in the region.
"In Qatar alone for instance, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office reported that the POLO-verified positive cases of OFWs has increased to 3,712 as of Saturday, December 19," said DOLE in a statement.#
"Of this number, 17 OFWs had died. More than 200 cases were added since last month," added the Labor department.
The DOLE said the POLOs in Europe and the Americas also reported 1,994 cases with 254 deaths.
As for Asia, the foreign offices recorded 1,106 COVID cases with one dead.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the POLOs are closely monitoring the condition of OFWs and are providing assistance in their respective jurisdictions.
