Practice discernment, maximum tolerance at all times, PRO-6 reminds W. Visayas cops

ILOILO CITY—Following the double murder of a mother and son by a policeman in Tarlac, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) is urging the 13,000 policemen in Western Visayas region to practice discernment and not to abuse their power.

“I am confident that the police in Region 6 can act with discernment,” said PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda.

“They cannot just use their guns and abuse the power given to them,” Miranda told the Manila Bulletin in an interview on Tuesday, December 22.

Miranda ordered the police chiefs in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces, as well asthose in the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod, to cascade his message to all policemen regardless of  their ranks.

The newly-appointed top cop of Western Visayas region is reminding all cops to exercise maximum tolerance at all times.

“They should control themselves whether or not they are on official duty or off duty,” Miranda added.

Miranda also urged the public not to generalize the actions of Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Montales Nuezca when he shot and killed mother and son Sonya and Frank Gregorio on December 20 in Paniqui, Tarlac.

“His actions are not reflective of the entire police organization,” he said.

Miranda said internal cleansing remains to be one of his top priorities as the top cop of the Western Visayas region.
