A governor-turned-congressman from the province where the gruesome murder of a mother and her son took place said he is both saddened and appalled by the incident.
"A lot have been said about it, but it's truly sad that such scenes still happen in this day and age," Tarlac Rep. Victor Yap said Tuesday.
Yap, chairman of the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology, was referring to the fatal shooting of Police Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca of Sonya Rufino Gregorio, 52, and her son, Frank Anthony Rufino Gregorio, 25.
Nuezca, 46, was accosting the unarmed victims over a petty argument regarding the use of "boga"(improvised noise-making cannon) when the cop suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot both Gregorios in the head twice. The entire incident, which took place in broad daylight in Paniqui in the first district Sunday, was caught on video.
"It's barbaric," Yap said, somewhat at a loss for words over the now viral video.
Moreover, the former Tarlac governor said he was disturbed by the fact that Nuezca killed two people in front of his young daughter, who, based on the video, held her policeman dad in high regard.
"He must be dulled with drugs. He cannot escape being tested as well," Yap said of Nuezca, who has since surrendered to authorities and been indicted of two counts of murder.
Yap is the brother of current Tarlac governor, Susan Yap.
