CJ Peralta condemns killing of former CA Justice Pizarro; presses further investigation

Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta on Tuesday (Dec. 22) said “the killing and murder of any person is never tolerated by our laws.”

“In fact, our courts will always condemn it,” Peralta said in his statement on the death of retired Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Normandie B. Pizarro.
 
“I ask our law enforcement agencies to press on with their investigation so that the perpetrators of this barbaric act be caught and brought to justice,” he said.
 
The Chief Justice also extended his “sincerest condolences and sympathies” to Pizarro’s family.
 
Pizarro retired in 2018 a year before his mandatory retirement at 70 years old.
 
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra last Monday said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has identified four persons of interest in Pizarro’s death.
 
“One of them is willing to divulge what he knows,” Guevarra said.
 
The NBI had confirmed that the remains of a person recovered in Capas, Tarlac last Octobe 30 were those of Pizarro’s.
 
“The NBI forensic chemistry division report showed a 99.99999 per cent DNA match,” Guevarra said.
 
The NBI said that the late CA justice was last seen at a casino in Clark in Pampanga last October 23.
