7 dead from 'Vicky' in Caraga, Eastern Visayas

At least seven persons were killed while four others are missing as tropical depression “Vicky” pounded Mindanao and some parts of the Visayas with torrential rains, consolidated reports of the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed Sunday.

Five of the fatalities were reported in the Caraga region while the remaining was in Eastern Visayas.

Police have yet to disclose the specific details of each fatality.

Two persons from the Davao region and two from Caraga are missing.

Reports from ground commanders in affected regions said 1,038 families are staying in various evacuation centers, mostly from the Caraga and Davao region.

Police have been instructed to assist in disaster management operations for Vicky last week, especially in areas in Mindanao which weather experts said would suffer the brunt of Vicky’s onslaught.

More than 500 individuals were reported to have been rescued by the PNP in Mindanao from widespread flooding.

 Massive flooding was monitored in CARAGA and netizens said that what they saw in social media was like that of typhoon “Ulysses.”

Thousands of policemen from Visayas and Mindanao have been mobilized to assist in preemptive evacuation and in relief and rescue missions. Hundreds of cops were instructed to secure evacuation centers.

The PNP said 15 areas in Caraga have no electricity while 24 areas in Eastern Visayas have no communication lines.
