Dumaguete City sets up quarantine control points starting Dec. 3 to stop virus spread
DUMAGUETE CITY – The City of Dumaguete has reactivated its quarantine control points due to the sudden and unusual increase in the number of active COVID-19 cases in the city in November infecting members of the same families, read a public advisory signed by Mayor Felipe Remollo.
Remollo said everyone is enjoined to be more vigilant and dutiful in the observance of the basic health protocols even within the confines of their homes. “Your home may be your comfort zone but may become a danger zone if you will not observe the basic health protocols,” he added.
The same protocols are strictly implemented within the city: the wearing of face masks and face shield, by practicing social distancing, and frequent hand washing with soap and alcohol.
The advisory added that in this holiday season, everyone is warned to avoid parties, reunions, mass gatherings, and celebrations that will entail crowding and sharing of food and drinks especially beyond curfew.
The members of the Philippine National Police, Discipline Zone, Traffic Management Office, Barangay Tanods and officials are called upon to strictly enforce these directives including the setting up of Quarantine Control Points starting December 3, 2020 until further notice, the advisory read.
Dumaguete City's COVID-19 cases involved mostly family members, according to City Health Officer Dr. Maria Sarah Talla based on her report that 12 new COVID-19 cases last week were members of families of previous confirmed cases.
Talla said that it has been observed that the transmission of the virus is mostly among family members in households who share the same dining utensils, sleeping quarters, and bathrooms.
In Barangay Calindagan, the 20-year-old and 28-year-old daughters as well as the 58-year-old wife of NEGOR-COV 568 and the 37-year-old health worker and son of NEGOR-COV 595 were admitted at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH).
In Barangay Poblacion 2, the new COVID-19 cases were the 57-year-old daughter, 27-year-old grandson, and 46-year-old daughter-in-law of NEGOR-COV 573.
In Barangay Bajumpandan, cases involved the wife and daughters of NEGOR-COV 564.
In Barangay Tabuc-Tubig, infected was the 20-year-old son of NEGOR-COV 562, while in Barangay Mangnao, the new case case is a 72-year-old male currently admitted at NOPH.
Talla bared that all 12 new cases are currently in isolation and all their contacts have been quarantined. There are now 36 active cases being monitored as of Saturday evening.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo appealed to the public to be vigilant and always follow the minimum health standards of using face masks, avoiding prolonged mass gatherings when social distancing is not possible, and frequent hand washing.
Households with confirmed COVID-19 cases are placed on lockdown and relief food packs are provided by the City Government and the barangays
People from outside Dumaguete City are discouraged from coming to the city unless extremely necessary or related to seeking urgent medical care.
