Aiming to raise tax collection, BIR reshuffles 36 field officials

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has reshuffled additional 36 key field officials as part of its bigger effort of raising the bulk of next year's P4.5 trillion budget.

The latest personnel changes  like those in previous months were ordered by BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay based on the principle of putting the right people to right assignments to make the collection target achievable.

They were mostly revenue district officers (RDOs) and chief and assistant chief of the assessment division of the regional offices in Luzon and the Visayas.

Among those given new assignments were Emmanuel Ferrer, RDO West Makati to assistant regional director of the Cordillera Autonomous Region; Assistant RDO Joe Soriano of North Makati to RDO West Makati; RDO Vicente Gamad from Pasig City to Marikina City, RDO Saripoden Bantog, from Marikina to Pasig.

RDO Dennis Floreza from Masbate to Naga City; Michael Remir Macatangay from head of the regional investigation division (RID) of South NCR to RDO of Lipa City and Remedios Advencula from RID chief of East NCR to RDO of Tarlac City.

Insiders have predicted a more successful tax collection campaign next year.

They based their optimism on the excellent collection record during the first 10 months of the year, raising P1.6 trillion and exceeding the target by P174 billion despite the unprecedented destruction of the economy by Corona Virus-19.

They said raising more money for the government next year would be much easier as the pandemic is expected to subside with the availability of vaccines to cure the disease.
