Mass weddings must comply with health, safety protocols -- DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Thursday that mass weddings are allowed provided that health protocols are strictly observed.
In a report of ABS-CBN News, DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya explained that mass weddings are lawful where 30 percent of the venue capacity is mandated to ensure that social distancing is maintained in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that the groom and the bride should also wear face masks and face shields during the ceremony.
Last December 15, Makati City mayor Abby Binay officiated at a wedding ceremony which was dubbed as the “mask wedding’’.
The said ceremony started last July where couples were married in the midst of the pandemic.
“We really made an effort to make it an outdoor wedding just to simply accommodate all those requests na gusto magpakasal (who want to wed),’’ Binay said.
Reports disclosed that about 190 couples have exchanged wedding vows since the wedding program was established in Makati City.
