E. Visayas PNP gets operational boost with P51-M worth of new vehicles, firearms


PALO, Leyte – More than P51 million worth of new vehicles and firearms were turned over by the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) to different police units in Eastern Visayas on Wednesday, a report from Camp Ruperto K. Kangleon here said.

PRO-8 Regional Information Officer Lt. Col. Ma. Bella Rentuaya told the Manila Bulletin that the turnover was in line with the objective to enhance law enforcement operations in Eastern Visayas.

Rentuaya said that PRO 8 has issued 33 new patrol jeeps single bab 4x2 (Toyota Hi-lux) and 300 units of 5.56mm basic assault rifle (BAR) “Galil ACE 22N” to its various line units on Wednesday at the PRO 8 Grandstand,

Of the new police vehicles worth P36,960,000, eight units were given  to Leyte PPO, seven to Biliran PPO; six units toNorthern Samar PPO, five units to Southern Leyte PPO, four to Eastern Samar PPO, and three units to Samar PPO.

The new firearms, worth P14,099,700 were also handed over to the recipient Provincial/City Police Offices (PPOs/CPOs).

PRO 8 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Ronaldo F. De Jesus said the procurement of the vehicles and weapons was in line with the PNP Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) 2020 which aims to enhance the operational readiness of the personnel and upgrade the law enforcement approach.

“The support and trust given to the police force in Eastern Visayas, as reflected by the provision of these vehicles and firearms, give us the opportunity to be one step ahead against our enemies involved in illegal drugs, criminality, and insurgency,” De Jesus said.

He urged the recipients of the new equipment to render proper care management and utilize them in pursuit of their mission to serve and protect.

The turnover was facilitated by the Office of the Regional Logistics and Research Development Division (ORLRDD) and attended by Brig. Gen. Ronaldo R. Mendoza, Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA); Col. Edwin Buenavenura C. Wagan, Deputy Regional Director for Operations (DRDO); Col. Jonathan A. Cabal, Chief Regional Staff (CRS), Maj. Teddy C. David, Regional Pastoral Officer (RPO) and other key personnel.
