Persons with disabilities in the Art Capital of Angono in Rizal province who are unable to go out to buy their essentials and even to ride public transportation now have a special mode of transportation available to them.

Several tricycles are now capable of transporting PWDs, especially the wheelchair-bound ones, and senior citizens as the province’s first ever PWD transport service.
Elmer Deloritos, chief of the Public Order and Safety Office of the municipal government, told the Manila Bulletin that the tricycles are no ordinary tricycles but are vehicles that are custom-built to transport a PWD passenger on a wheelchair as well as senior citizens. The converted tricycles were considered as colorum or those that have no franchise.
Aside from being a transport service, the tricycles can also be used to deliver the essentials of the PWDs or the elderly.
To avail of the service, a passenger can book a ride through the call center of the Serbisyong May Puso Para Sa PWD Transport Service at 0968-368-0646 or 0995-253-9134.
The office of Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said the transport service is also intended to cater to passengers who need emergency assistance.
The program was launched recently with the leaders of the tricycle drivers association signing a memorandum of agreement with the mayor and vice mayor of the town.
It was learned that the project was conceptualized during the term of former Mayor Gerardo Calderon and was supposed to be fully operational during the early months of the year but the quarantine protocol restrictions prevented its implementation.
