Hey, '90s kids: A live-action 'Ghost Fighter' is coming

There’s no denying it. If you grew up in the ‘90s, you have seen and probably loved Yu Yu Hakusho (localized as Ghost Fighter). And you have most probably re-lived your childhood by re-watching it on Netflix when the streaming service made the entire series available earlier this year.

Now, Netflix announces that it’s bringing a live-action version of Yu Yu Hakusho soon as an original series set for simultaneous release worldwide. Details about the adaptation remain scarce. But, for now, knowing that there will be a live-action version of one of the most beloved anime series in history is enough to give Pinoy fans something to look forward to in 2021.

Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (published by Shueisha as part of the Jump Comics line) for four years from 1990, Yu Yu Hakusho was later adapted into an anime series that aired from 1992 to 1995.

The only concern anime fans have, as with most live-action adaptations, is how well this will all be done. After all, otakus have been burned more than once before with live-action versions of famous anime that weren’t quite up to par with expectations—yes, we’re talking about Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, and that horrendous American Dragon Ball movie.
