Gallup survey reveals top Korean movie stars who shined in 2020

Gallup Korea has revealed its yearly list of the top 10 Korean movie stars who shined in 2020 as part of its “Person of the Year” ranking in each field. 

The polling firm held a survey among 1,700 Korean respondents aged 13 and above nationwide except Jeju Island from Nov. 5 to 29 this year and asked them to name their top picks for movie stars. 

Song Kang-ho, star of the Oscar Best Picture “Parasite,” ranked first with 27.8 percent, his second consecutive year to be voted No. 1 on the survey. 

Lee Byung-hun, who starred in films “Ashfall” and “The Man Standing Next,” grabbed second place with 14 percent. 

Ma Dong-seok got 9.1 percent to place third this year from ranking second in 2019. He starred in the films “Ignition” and “Ashfall.” 

Hwang Jung-min, star of the hit film “Deliver Us from Evil,” is in fourth placed with 7.5 percent, rising from ninth place last year. 

Jung Woo-sung of “Beasts Clawing at Straws” bagged fifth place with 6.2 percent, an increase from seventh place in 2019. 

Gong Yoo ranked sixth with 5.9 percent. He starred in “Kim Ji-young: Born 1982” in 2019 but the release of his next film “Seo Bok” was postponed due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. 

Ha Jung-woo of “Ashfall” and “The Closet” is in seventh place with 4 percent followed by Lee Jung-jae of “Deliver Us from Evil,” 3.6 percent; actress Kim Hye-soo, 3.5 percent; and Lee Jeong-eun of “Parasite,” 3.4 percent. 

Other movie stars in the ranking were Kang Dong-won (3.3 percent), Sung Dong-il (2.9 percent), Yoo Ah-in (2.7 percent), Yoo Hae-jin and Kwak Do-won (2.4 percent), Son Ye-jin (2 percent), Hyun Bin (1.9 percent), Sol Kyung-gu (1.6 percent), Choi Min-sik (1.5 percent), Ahn Sung-ki and Jo Jung-suk (1.4%), Lee Je-hoon, Han Suk-kyu, Park Bogum and Ju Ji-hoon (1.3 percent), Cho Yeo-jeong and Cho Jin-woong (1.1 percent), and Park Seo-joon, Park, Jo In-sung and Jang Dong-gun (1 percent).
