Banario, Folayang up for a rematch against Hawaiian MMA star

Two fighters from Benguet's Team Lakay have expressed desire for a rematch against Hawaiian mixed martial arts icon Lowen Tynanes.

Tynanes, who will see action in the Circle against former featherweight champion Marat Gafurov of Russia in ONE: Collision Course in Singapore on Friday, scored technical knockout wins against Eduard Folayang in 2012 and Honorio Banario last year.

And the two Team Lakay stalwarts vowed not to back down should ONE Championship give the green light for the rematch.

"If they do give me a chance to fight him again, I will gladly accept. But it will be down at featherweight where I am stronger," said Banario, who suffered a first-round elbow punishment from Tynanes last January 2019 in ONE: Hero's Ascent.

"I believe I could defend his takedowns better and keep the fight standing. In a standup fight, I can beat him in many ways."

Folayang, for his part, believes that he had evolved as a fighter and improved his skill set since meeting the undefeated Tynanes in URCC eight years ago at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

At that time, then 22-year-old Tynanes forced a doctor stoppage against Folayang for his second straight win in the professional ranks.

Tynanes, who holds a 10-0 record, has yet to be taken down by anyone since beginning his mixed martial arts career in the amateur level a decade ago.

Now at 30 years old, Tynanes seeks to continue his winning ways which include six victories in ONE Championship.

"Lowen is a great wrestler, and he’s always looking to take his opponents to the ground. I experienced that firsthand when we met many years ago," said the 37-year-old Folayang, who has lost four of his last five fights since 2019.

"However, I think I’m a much different fighter now compared to before. If we do meet again, I will prepare hard for him."
