Vico Sotto: We should all do our part to prevent surge of COVID-19 cases
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto underscored the importance of the public’s cooperation in preventing the surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases this holiday season.

“The government, , is preparing for a surge. But we should all do our part to prevent it,” Sotto wrote in a Twitter post in reaction to reports that the reproduction rate of COVID-19 in Metro Manila has increased.
Experts from the Octa Research Group said that the metro’s reproduction rate for COVID-19 has breached the threshold of 1, which means that the virus is spreading faster.
It has been in the long tradition of Filipinos to have grand celebrations such as parties and family reunions during the Christmas season.
But with the lingering threat of the coronavirus pandemic, authorities have urged the public to do away with merry-making activities this year to avoid the spread of the dreaded disease in the community.
In Pasig, its mayor has continuously warned residents to avoid holding family reunions and other activities involving a large number of people this holiday season.
“It will be impossible to police every family. Be responsible. Limit Christmas gatherings to immediate family and/or residents of the same house. Take necessary precautions,” Sotto said.
Aside from grand Christmas parties and reunions, another holiday tradition prohibited this year is street caroling.
The Metro Manila Council, composed of 17 mayors in the capital region, has agreed to ban outdoor caroling to avoid the spike of COVID-19 infections.
