DAVAO CITY - The provincial government of Davao de Oro on Monday said 43 employees of a mining company operating in Maco town have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The 43 additional cases were among the 46 new cases recorded in the province last December 12.
In a statement, the provincial government said 338 employees of the mining company underwent swab testing last December 10. After two days, the results were released and 43 specimens turned out positive.
Of the 43 employees, 34 are from the municipality of Maco, seven from Mawab town, and one case each from the towns of New Bataan and Compostela.
It said the employees were exposed to a visitor who was later found to be positive for COVID-19.
The employees are currently under isolation at the Municipal Isolation Unit. Contact tracing is also ongoing to locate other individuals who have had direct contacts with the employees.
As of Monday, December 14, Davao de Oro has a total of 535 cases, 104 of which are active, 423 recoveries, and eight are fatalities.
Davao region has recorded a total of 10,836 COVID-19 cases with 2,272 active cases.
