A total of P6,951,990 was raised during the public auction held at the port’s Security Warehouse in Barangay Tablon last December 10.

According to District Collector John Simon, a total of 13 shipments were auctioned off to 11 bidders.

These shipments included a closed van truck, Ford Ranger truck, used truck parts, polished tiles, furniture, steel coils, and copper ore.

Simon said the auction will help improve yard utilization and avoid congestion at the Port of Cagayan de Oro.

“As a result of the auction, more than 70 overstaying containers have been disposed of,” Simon said.

The district collector added that the public auction also “counts as a great addition to the government coffers as it continues to battle the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).”

The conduct of the public auction, Simon said, was in line with Customs Memorandum Order 10-2020 which states that cargoes that have not been withdrawn for more than 30 days from the date of discharge shall be tagged as abandoned and upon finality of the Decree of Abandonment, the Bureau of Customs shall decide on its disposition.
