“Cases are increasing.  We have seen them on an uptrend this December,” said Treñas in a statement Friday, December 11.
As of December 10, there were 23 fresh COVID-19 cases.  On December 9, there were 15 new cases.

Treñas noted how the number of COVID-19 cases in the city were being posted in double digits since December 1 with the exception of December 6 when only six cases were recorded.

Treñas reiterated the reminder of practicing minimum health standards, including the wearing of face masks, face shields and physical distancing.

While the national government has placed the city under general community quarantine (GCQ), Treñas has been criticized for allowing activities that would constitute to mass gatherings. It included the homecoming of Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Occeña Mateo last month.

There were also several trade fairs and night markets that drew large crowds.
