DAVAO CITY - The number of fatalities in the Davao region due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) surpassed the 400-mark on Thursday, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The DOH Davao Center for Health Development reported five deaths on Thursday, including four fatalities in Davao City, and one in Davao del Sur.
The total number of COVID-19 deaths in the region is now at 402, with Davao City recording the most number with 326, while Davao Occidental having three. The DOH has yet to release the profiles of the fatalities.
On Wednesday, the DOH recorded three deaths, including two male patients, aged 73 and 66 from Barangays Waan and Daliao in Davao City, respectively. The other fatality was a 65-year-old woman from the municipality of Pantukan in Davao de Oro.
The DOH also recorded 135 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Thursday bringing the total number of active cases to 2,793. The region has recorded a total of 10,432 cases.
Based on the COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin dated December 10, the new cases include 95 patients from Davao del Norte, 35 from Davao City, three from Davao de Oro, and two from Davao del Sur.
Meanwhile, there were 85 recoveries reported on Thursday. Data showed that 40 of the recoveries were from Davao City, 30 from Davao del Norte, 10 from Davao del Sur, and five from Davao Oriental.
Last Wednesday, six children aged four-years-old and below were among the 102 recoveries reported.
The youngest of them included a 10-day-old boy from Tugbok district, and a four-month-old boy from Toril district here. The four-month-old was exposed to a confirmed case, while the exposure of the 10-day-old infant was still under investigation.
