Chris Evans to voice Buzz Lightyear in a new Pixar film

The new movie is set to be released on 2022

Marvel Cinematic Universe’ The Avengers star Chris Evans announced on his Instagram that he will be voicing Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear in a new movie called Lightyear, which is set to premiere on June 17, 2022, and to be helmed by Finding Dory director Angus Maclane.

“Working with Pixar is a dream come true,” Chris posted. “I’ve been a massive fan of their films since the very beginning. My team could barely contain their excitement when they told me that Pixar had a pitch for me. All they said was ‘Buzz Lightyear.’”

For a recall, Buzz Lightyear is among the characters of Pixar’s first animated feature in 1995. The space commander whose sole duty is to defeat his nemesis, the Evil Emperor Zurg, was brought to life and made famous with the voice of actor Tim Allen. 

Unlike the Toy Story movies, Lightyear will feature Buzz’s life, not as a toy but as an elite galactic ranger. According to Chris, the movie “is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.”

“This one is going to be special, and it doesn’t step on a single thing,” Chris says. “I can’t even put my excitement into words. I smile every time I think about it.”
