Mandaluyong City will not be placed on lockdown this holiday season, Mayor Carmelita Abalos said Monday.
“Hindi po totoo na maglo-lockdown. Kasi wala tayong rason para mag lockdown (It is not true that there will be a lockdown. Because we have no reason to impose a lockdown),” Abalos said.
According to the mayor, there were rumors going around recently that Mandaluyong will reportedly be under lockdown from December 22 to January 2.
“Pababa po ang cases kaya hindi ko alam saan galing ang kwentong ‘yan. Wala pong lockdown na mangyayari sa Lungsod ng Mandaluyong (Cases are on a downtrend so I do not know where that story came from. No lockdown will happen in Mandaluyong City,” she said.
With this, Abalos urged people not to spread false and unverified information for it only creates panic among the public.
Similar false information regarding the rumored return of the country to the stricter Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) was also recently debunked by authorities.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, who is also the spokesman of the Inter-Agency Task Force, branded such unverified information as “fake news.”
Last week, President Duterte placed Metro Manila, Batangas, Iloilo City, Tacloban City, Lanao del Sur, Iligan, and Davao City under general community quarantine (GCQ) until the end of December.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country is under modified GCQ until the end of the year.
As of December 6, Mandaluyong has logged a total of 5,611 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 5,355 recoveries, 165 deaths, and 91 active cases.
