Manila LGU opens Social Hygiene Clinic, Satellite Treatment Hub

The Manila city government opened a Social Hygiene Clinic and Satellite Treatment Hub in Sampaloc in line with the celebration of World AIDS Day on Tuesday.

Residents of the city who are HIV/AIDS positive patients can get treatment in the said facilities.

Those who wish to learn more about the disease can also visit to get information. 

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a deadly virus that targets the body's cells that help fight infection. This makes one more prone to contracting other infections and diseases.

Meanwhile, AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is the late stage of HIV infection wherein one's immune system is already heavily damaged by the virus.

Although there is still no cure for HIV, that first emerged in 1981, taking antiretroviral therapy or ART can help patients who test positive to live longer.
