LPA, tail-end of frontal system bring rains to Luzon, Visayas

Two weather systems continue to bring rains over some parts of Luzon and Visayas Thursday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the low-pressure area at 105 kilometers east-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte could either dissipate after land interaction or remain an LPA while traversing Southern Luzon.

The combined effects of the LPA and tail-end of frontal system, or the boundary between cold northeast monsoon and warm easterly winds, will continue to bring moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, and Kalinga.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rain showers during thunderstorms may also prevail over Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Capiz, Aklan, Romblon, Batanes, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino, while occasional to frequent light to moderate rains may prevail over Ilocos Norte, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, and Mountain Province.

PAGASA continues to warn the public against possible flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides that may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas that are identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and in localities that received significant rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks.

Likewise, adjacent or nearby areas that may not experience heavy rainfall may still experience flooding due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take appropriate measures.

The amihan may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

A gale warning remains in effect on Thursday morning due to the surge of northeast monsoon.

PAGASA said strong to gale force winds are expected to affect the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, eastern coastline of Luzon, and western coasts of Northern and Central Luzon.

As rough to very rough seas may prevail over these coasts, PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small boats not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels were asked to remain alert against big waves.
