Cullamat has filed a complaint before the CHR and requested an independent investigation on the death of her daughter Jevilyn.
CHR chairperson Chito Gascon welcomed representatives from the Makabayan bloc who personally filed the complaint at the CHR office in Quezon City. They held a dialogue and agreed that the cases of red-tagging and various human rights violations against members of progressive organizations have become more rampant.
CHR spokesperson Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia said that their Caraga Regional Office has launched a probe on the case of Cullamat.
"We promise to work closely with the family of the victim and the authorities to shed light on the incident," she said.
The CHR also noted the request for investigation of the family of former National Democratic Front of the Philippines consultants Eugenia Magpantay and Agaton Topacio, who were recently killed in a police encounter in Angono, Rizal.
"Faithful to its mandate, the CHR is always open to any party who seeks aid in pursuing justice and accountability for human rights violations perpetrated by both state and non-state actors," said De Guia.
