CAGAYAN -- The provincial government has confirmed that 27 barangays have reported cases of African Swine Fever (ASF).
Acting Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Noli V. Buen said the conduct of obtaining blood samples from pigs continues, particularly in nine neighboring towns where ASF cases were reported.
The areas with ASF are Calantac, Agani, Pinopoc, Masin in Alcala; La Suerte, Bayabat, Monte Alegre, Centro, and Manalo in Amulung; Liwan Sur and Lanna in Enrile; Baculud, Iguig, and Warat in Piat; Parog-Parog, Palao, Maguirig, Iraga, Cadaanan, Gadu, and Nangalisan in Solana; Dagupan, Malalinta, Palca, Bubung in Tuao; Sta. Clara and Florishing in Gonzaga town, and barangay Masical in Baggao.
A total of 2,621 pigs were culled and excavated to control the spread of the ASF virus. About 618 farmers or hog raisers were affected.
The Provincial Government continues to distribute financial assistance to hog raisers. A hog raiser with three slaughtered pigs will be paid only 3,000 per pig because there will also be a P5,000 assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The Provincial Government of Cagayan provided financial assistance through the PVO, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO),and Provincial Treasury Office .
The setting up of checkpoints to be manned by personnel from the Philippine National Police, livestock technicians from Municipal Agriculturists, livestock technicians of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), TFLC and Marines Battalion Landing Team 10, will be strictly enforced to ensure that ASF does not spread in the province.
