Mayor Sara extends Safe Davao QR code use to Nov. 23

DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced on Thursday that the mandatory use of the Safe Davao Quick Response (QR) code is extended to November 23 in view of reports on the difficulties being encountered on its registration.

“The people accessing the site at the same time reached 10,000. Thus, we have to take down the site for people to calm down. We will resume the registration tomorrow,” Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in her live talk with Davao City Disaster Radio.

Duterte-Carpio had earlier said that the mandatory use of the QR code will take effect on November 7, Saturday, but due to technical glitches, she decided to extend the mandatory use of the code to November 23.

“May I remind everyone that November 23 is not a deadline for you to register for DQR code. You could still register even after November 23,” Duterte-Carpio said. 

Duterte-Carpio said the Safe Davao QR aims to help accelerate contact tracing and enforce the ban on non-essential travel to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Perhaps, I have to register at dawn? I’ve been trying to register for DQR since yesterday (Tuesday), but my God, I cannot complete the process. It just keeps loading,” Jenny Nuñeza, a nurse, said in her Facebook post.

Florence Astillo, an employee of a national government agency, also had the same concern. He said he was able to fill-up the information needed except the barangay, as the system loads. He was not able to register, yet.

“Can the City Government extend the implementation of the Davao QR code? They have to consider and fix the glitches, first, before its implementation,” Rose Paglinawan, a retired teacher, told the Manila Bulletin.

“It is easy to fill-up the form, but when I clicked the next button it began loading. It would not be fair if they will implement it on November 7 and everyone has not yet registered,” Leo Corsiga, a call center agent, said.

These are only few of many people who have concerns over the Davao QR code registration. 

City Human Resource Management Office acting department head Lemuel Ortonio told the Manila Bulletin that their web development is already fixing the glitches. He said the glitch is due to the high volume of people doing the registration at the same time. 

“The city’s web development team has already upgraded the specifications for the database and the system to fix the issues and concerns we experience during the registration for Safe Davao QR code,” Ortonio said.

The Safe Davao Quick Response (QR) generation glitch prompted the web development team of the City Government to check its database and system following several complaints from netizens.
