New COVID-19 cases decrease to below 2,000 --DOH

The number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the Philippine has again lowered to below 2,000 in the Department of Health's (DOH) latest update on Monday.

As of 4 p.m. of November 30, 1,773 new coronavirus infections were recorded by the government, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 431,630.

The province of Rizal had the most number of new cases to date with 105, followed by Cavite province with 99; Negros Occidental with 88; Davao City with 79; and Laguna with 72.

Of the total number of cases, 24,580 or 5.7 percent remain active cases, majority of these being mild infections.

The DOH also reported 44 new recoveries on Monday, bringing the number of COVID-19 survivors to 398,658 or 92.4 percent.

COVID-19 deaths, meanwhile, rose to 8,392, with 19 more patients reported to have succumbed to the disease.

On Sunday, the DOH reported 2,076 new cases of COVID-19, a jump from the 1,893 cases recorded on Saturday.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III earlier on Monday said the slight increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases was due to recent typhoons that hit Luzon, which displaced hundreds and thousands of families. He also expected an increase in COVID-19 cases due to the upcoming Christmas season, when shopping and social gatherings are prevalent.

The DOH noted that it removed seven duplicates of the total case count, four of them were recovered cases.

"Moreover, six cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths," the department disclosed.
