Police beef up security for holidays in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) is intensifying its preparations for the holiday season in Western Visayas region.

“This is to prevent and suppress the occurrence of criminal and terrorists act targeting the general public, places of convergence and transportation hubs who will take advantage of the situation,” said PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan.

With the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Pamuspusan said that one of the priorities for PRO-6 is to assist local authorities in enforcing minimum health standard in public places, such as making sure people wear their face masks and practice physical distancing.

“We have to be safe this holiday season,” Pamuspusan added.

Police officers will also be visible at strategic areas such as grocery stores, shopping areas, transportation terminals, and churches in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces, as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

PRO-6 Spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong told The Manila Bulletin in an interview on Sunday, November 29, that police units will determine the number personnel deployed for foot and mobile patrol during the holiday season.

Malong added that police assistance hubs will be placed in different strategic areas to assist and cater to the public’s needs.
