2 children killed as father sets own house on fire in Catarman

TACLOBAN City – A man set ablaze his own house Friday dawn, killing two of his children, and injuring a nephew in Catarman town, Northern Samar.

Police are still determining the reason why Fernando Ford Frigillana, 39, of Barangay Dalakit, Catarman town, set their own house on fire even when his two children, aged 11 and 16, and a 13-year-old nephew were still inside.

According to Catarman Police Station Investigator SSg. Ronald Dente, they received a call from a concerned citizen about the fire that took place at around 4:30 a.m.

An initial investigation conducted by SFO2 Ruben Calumpiano showed that Frigillana took gasoline from a parked motorcycle, which he used to douse his house with and set it ablaze.

Almost half of the house was razed with the children still inside. Frigillana’s two children were killed, while his nephew sustained minor injuries.

According to the police, Frigillano was undergoing rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, and had earlier been charged with domestic violence.

This was reportedly the reason why his wife left him with seven of their nine children.

Frigillana was immediately arrested and was brought to the Catarman Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. He will be charged with arson.
