Enriquez, former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservists and Retirees Affairs, said during the change of command ceremony that his new assignment is full of challenges but assured the troops of effective leadership in the western frontier.

Enriquez is WESCOM's 34th commander.

"Your WESCOM shall perform effectively. There will be a harmonious relationship with all stakeholders. This is the most exciting and challenging time. We renew our commitment to serve our country," he said.

The former commander of WESCOM and now Vice Chief of Staff of of the AFP,  Lt. Gen. Erickson Gloria turned over the leadership of  WESCOM to Enriquez and said that they faced a lot of challenges during his term, including insurgency, maritime security, anti-illegal drug operations, human trafficking, and protection of the environment.

"When I assumed as commander of Western Command almost six months ago, these accomplishments would not be possible without the support from the local government units, unified command personnel, and other government agencies. I would like to extend my gratitude to them. I will surely miss the province of Palawan. I hereby relinquish my duty as a commander of Western Command effective this day," Gloria said.

He also said that WESCOM remains free from COVID-19 following the reported local transmission in Puerto Princesa.

"We are happy to inform you that up to now, WESCOM is COVID-19 free," he said.

AFP Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay served as the presiding officer of the ceremony virtually.
