Farm-to-market road in Zamboanga del Norte paved to support farmers' livelihood

Farmers in Labason, Zamboanga del Norte now have a better way of transporting their agricultural goods to the market after a road connecting two villages in their place was recently paved.

A 706-meter farm-to-market road (FMR) connecting Barangay Lopoc and Barangay Dansalan in the municipality of Labason was recently paved, providing a shorter travel of eight minutes between the villages.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said the newly-improved road was implemented under a P12-million fund.

Villar said the completed project greatly benefits farmers in Labason relying on corn, chicken, and swine production for their livelihood.

“Agricultural products can now be delivered more efficiently through a more convenient and safer road these farmers can utilize,” he furthered.

The local road paving is a convergence project of the DPWH and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Meanwhile, a river wall along Talinga River Basin in Leon B. Postigo town, Zamboanga Del Norte was also recently constructed to protect communities from the threats of major flooding.

“The newly-built revetment structure will avert flooding and overflow of Talinga River and lessen the damage brought by typhoon season in the low-lying area of Barangay Talinga,” Villar said.

The secretary added that the new river wall was completed one month ahead of schedule. It was implemented under a P25-million fund.

The flood control project involves the construction of a 196.50 meters revetment structure with steel sheet pile foundation, concrete slope structure, and earthworks.

DPWH Zamboanga Del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office implemented the construction of the project funded under DPWH 2020 Regular Infrastructure Program.
