ILOILO CITY — Six local government units (LGUs) in the Western Visayas region are pilot areas for the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP).

The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM-6) has a grant to LGUs of Libertad and Pandan towns in Antique province; Concepcion and Lambunao towns in Iloilo province; Maayon town in Capiz province; and Don Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental province.
“POPCOM’s strategic interventions as well as its resources shall be focused toward the efficient and effective mobilization of LGUs to take the lead in the implementation of population management strategies,” said POPCOM-6 Regional Director Harold Alfred Marshall.
POPCOM-6 is giving technical guidance such as conducting strategic planning workshops for the LGUs to identify key population issues such as Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and Adolescent Birth Rate.
“We welcome this partnership as it can help us attain our vision of making LGUs relevant in contributing to development,” said Mayor Mary Jean Te of Libertad town.
POPCOM-6 is leading the regional commemoration of Population and Development (POPDEV) Week which ends on November 29.
