Manila launches Children's Congress, elects district representatives for National Children's Month

The Manila city government elected six child representatives into the Manila Council for the Protection of Children (MCPC) in line with its celebration of National Children's Month.Â

The representatives are Jerome Francisco from District 1, Michen Maricon Biala from District 2, Rhiane S. Rico from District 3, Giovanni Edgar Reyes from District 4, Shanice Cavite from District 5, and Jan Angelique Tigue from District 6.

They attended the formal oath-taking ceremony with Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso at the Kartilya ng Katipunan on Monday.

The MCPC was established to uphold the rights and welfare of the capital city's children, as well as to help them stay informed about their rights.

Domagoso vowed to continue providing services for the youth.

One of the initiatives he cited in his State of the Children Address includes sending home around 3,000 children who were rescued from Manila's streets.

The Manila mayor also cited the city government's provision of thousands of gadgets and connectivity devices to equip students for the blended and distance learning setup amid the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

On Saturday, November 21, the city government also launched its first Children's Congress, which were attended by city government officials, representatives from youth groups, and members of the police.

The city government bared that it is preparing a series of activities for the National Children's Month, including a Children's Rights Workshop and a talent contest for daycare pupils.
