DSWD receives grocery packs for storm victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has received from mobile phone and electronics brand Cherry Mobile some 1,000 grocery packs for families affected by typhoon “Ulysses” in Cagayan Valley.

The donation composed of sardines, bottled water, rice, and face masks was turned over to DSWD Assistant Secretaries Rhea Penaflor and Rodolfo Encabo last Friday.

Regin Anacay, head of MSN Foundation Inc., the corporate foundation of Cherry Mobile, handed over the donation to the DSWD-Central Office in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, the DSWD noted that as of 6 a.m. Saturday, around 34, 744 families or 141, 455 persons affected by Ulysses remain in 731 evacuation centers while 12, 829 families or 46, 848 individuals are staying outside evacuation centers with their relatives or friends.

The DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center reported that the number of families affected by Ulysses in 6,273 barangays from eight regions reached 923, 236 families or 3, 785, 344 persons. The affected regions were National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The DSWD, local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations, and private sector have provided over P125.2 million worth of relief assistance to families affected by the typhoon.

The DROMIC reported 74, 892 houses damaged by Ulysses, 9, 291 of which were totally damaged and 74, 982 were partially damaged.
