3 more helicopters delivered to the PNP

Three more helicopters have been delivered to the Philippine National Police (PNP) this month, the choppers will be used in rescue, relief and medical evacuation operations amid the series of strong weather disturbances that hit the country in the past few weeks.

Maj. Gen. Angelito Casimiro, head of the PNP Directorate for Logistics, said the arrival of three Airbus H125 helicopters brought to 10 the total number of air assets of the national police force.

Each H125 helicopter, according to Casimiro, costs P205.3 million.

“These air assets are currently undergoing field testing and evaluation prior to acceptance,” said Casimiro.

PNP choppers are currently being used for distribution of relief goods to isolated areas that were hit by typhoon ‘Ulysses’, especially in Cagayan and Isabela provinces.

With the arrival of three more choppers, Casimiro said the PNP has now a total of seven H125 choppers, two Robinsons 44 trainer choppers and one unit of C150 trainer fixed wing.

In July, then PNP chief Archie Francisco Gamboa revived the pilot training course for members of the Special Action Force, the unit where the PNP air assets would be entrusted.

The PNP has so far produced a total of 11 pilots, with 14 others currently undergoing the training.

The PNP had 11 air assets but one of them crashed in Laguna in March this year that resulted to the death of a police general. Among those injured were Gamboa.
