DAVAO CITY – Two furry members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were given a birthday party celebration by the K9 Force of the PCG in Zamboanga City on Thursday, November 19.

In a Facebook post Thursday, the PCG Canine Force posted photos of Britney, a search and rescue dog, and Barley, an explosive detection dog enjoying their fifth “bark day” celebration.

“They have been in the service to our people and (the) country for four years and counting,” it said.

Britney and Barley are Golden Retrievers being handled by PO1 Miguel L. Yniego Jr of the PCG.

The PCG Canine Force said Britney was “a recipient of the “Dog of the Year Unit Award” for two consecutive years.”

The birthday celebrants also got dog food, vitamins, and medicines for deworming as presents from the City Government of Zamboanga through Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.

The PCG added that CGK9 was committed to uphold” maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, and maritime search and rescue” in Zamboanga City.
