Mayor Sara poses no objection to plans of placing Davao City under GCQ anew


DAVAO CITY – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said the city "will abide by the IATF (Inter Agency Task Force)," after National Task Force (NTF) on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez recommended on Wednesday the reversion of the city back to general community quarantine (GCQ).

"We will wait for the document," the mayor added.

This developed as the Department of Health (DOH) Davao Center for Health Development (DCHD) reported on Thursday 161 new cases of COVID-19 in the region, bringing the total number of active cases to 2,378.

The DOH said 106 of these cases were from Davao City, 42 from Davao del Sur, six from Davao del Norte, three from Davao Oriental, and two each from Davao De Oro and Davao Occidental. It said all these were local cases. Davao region has tallied a total of 7,940 COVID-19 cases.

Last Wednesday, November 18, eight children were among the 157 new cases recorded. Three of them were newborn infants including a 10-day-old boy and two five-day-old girls.

The DOH said 10 deaths were also reported on Thursday. Eight of the fatalities were from Davao City and two were from Davao del Sur.

The youngest of the fatalities based on the profiles was an 11-month-old girl from Panabo City who died on November 16, while the oldest was an 84-year-old woman from Barangay 10-A in Davao City.

The total number of COVID-19 deaths in the region is currently at 296. Meanwhile, 98 recoveries were reported on Thursday bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,266.
