Cebu City council honors Feliciano couple

CEBU CITY—The Cebu City Council has passed a resolution, naming retired general Melquiades Feliciano and his wife Mia as the city’s first-ever adopted couple.

The City Council recognized the Feliciano couple for their roles in the city’s effort to stem the tide of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

It was in June when the city recorded more than 5,000 active COVID-19 cases with 397 deaths that earned the city the infamous tag as the country’s epicenter of the pandemic.

In the third week of June, Feliciano was named by the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases as Chief Implementor for the Visayas to oversee the COVID-19 efforts in Cebu City and the Visayas.

With Feliciano overseeing the city’s COVID-19 response, COVID-19 cases started to go down, allowing the city to downgrade to a less restrictive community quarantine.  

“Together with Mrs. Feliciano, a certified nurse with extensive clinical background in the United States of America as well as in public health issues, Ret. Gen. Feliciano greatly contributed in improving and strengthening the operations at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) thereby resulting to the drastic decrease in the number of cases in the following months,” read the resolution authored by Councilor Joel Garganera and co-authored by Councilor Franklyn Ong.

The resolution was adopted last November 18.

“Spouses Feliciano have worked day and night, without any weekends nor holidays, in order to provide the most immediate and in establishing an improved system for the city’s COVID-19 response,” added the resolution.
