Singer Lea Salonga called out the Department Education (DepEd) for allegedly allowing the release of a module that discriminates against people for having tattoos. In her Facebook account, Salonga posted a photo of a page of a learning module released by the department.

“Okay, someone would need to tell me if this thing is really ok’d by the DepEd. And if so, what kind of BS is this?” she wrote.

The said question asks, “Ang tattoo ay simbolo ng?” with choices being the following: A) pagiging kriminal, B) pagkaalipin, C) kagitingan at kagandahan, or D) pagiging mababa ng katayuan sa lipunan. According to the photo, the right answer indicated in the module was “A) pagiging kriminal.”

This led the internationally-acclaimed singer to add, “I am this close to getting a tattoo if only to prove a point.” She also asked friends and social media users who have the module to send her or post the original page in order to get the full context of the statement.

“Can someone upload a photo of the full, unedited sheet? That whole letter A thing covers the rest of it, and we need some context,” she said.

Meanwhile, DJ Patty Tiu shared the same sentiments, posting on Facebook a photo of the said alleged module. “I think the correct answer is letter c,” Tiu said. “Tattoos symbolize courage, strength, beauty, and a whole lot more.”

Recently, netizens slammed DepEd for having a module body-shaming Angel Locsin. DepEd has since apologized to the actress. It was also called out for another grade 3 English module depicting farmers as poor.
