Typhoon Ulysses' infra damage now at P9.3B

Estimated damage to infrastructure left by typhoon Ulysses exceeded P9 billion Wednesday, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.

The damages caused by the typhoon to roads, bridges, flood control structures, public buildings, including school buildings, reached P9.369 billion as of Wednesday afternoon.

The most affected regions are the Bicol Region which sustained P3.3-billion in damages, Cagayan Valley, P2.538-billion; and Region IV-a, P1.9 billion.

As of noon, 12 national roads remain impassable due to soil collapse, landslide, roadslip, mudflow, flooding and carriageway settlement brought typhoon Ulysses.

There are also six road sections with limited access due to roadslip, mudflow, flooding, scoured bridge approaches, and damaged detour.

According to the department, 119 road sections have been affected by the onslaught of "Ulysses." Of these, 107 have been cleared since November 10.

Roads that remain impassable include nine sections of Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Ifugao; two sections of Lubuagan-Batong-Buhay Road in Kalinga; the Baggao Section of the Baybayog- Baggao-Dalin-Sta. Margarita Road in Cagayan; Itawes Bridge on Cagayan-Apayao Road in Tuao, Cagayan; the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge in Cabagan Sta. Maria, Isabela; two sections of Jct. Abbag-Nagtipunan Nueva Vizcaya Road via Dupax in Quirino; the Camatis Section of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Aurora; a section of Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Labi, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.

Other affected roads are the section of Sto Tomas, Minalin Macabebe Road in Barangay Telacsan, Macabebe, Pampanga; two sections of Baliwag-Candaba-Sta. Ana Road in San Agustin, Candaba, Pampanga; a section of Candaba-San Miguel Road in Paralaya-Magumbali, Candaba, Pampanga; and a section of the Talisay-Laurel-Agoncillo Unclassified Road in Batangas.
