Teachers receive early Christmas gift from gov't

The Department of Labor and Employment on Wednesday distributed financial assistance to some of the teacher beneficiaries of its COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) at the Kartilya ng Katipunan near the Manila City Hall.

Rolly Francia, DOLE Information and Publication Service Director, said the teachers will each receive P5,000 in cash assistance.

"This is the first time that the education sector will receive assistance," he said.

According to DOLE, 60,000 teachers are set to benefit from CAMP.

Francia said as of yesterday they already disbursed more than P24 million to some 4,800 teachers nationwide.

He said in the NCR they started the release on November 13 to some 3,000 beneficiaries.

"Don’t worry if you didn’t receive yet...just keep sending your application for financial assistance. Don't give up," said Francia.

Also present in the occasion was Senator Christopher Go.

In his speech, the senator revealed that the president of the Federation of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators (FAPSA) submitted a letter to him informing him that the pandemic also affected the teachers.


Go said he asked Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to also prioritize the teachers once the Bayanihan 2 has been approved.

"Sec. Bello agreed to give P5,000 for 60,000 teachers," he said.

The labor department epxressed hope that the assistance will be of help to the beneficiaries.

"It is our prayer that the financial assistance provided to you by the government would help you and your families recover. It may not be enough considering the impact of COVID 19 outbreak and the recent typhoons but the department is doing its best to help the affected workers and establishments especially the educational institutions in this difficult and extraordinary time," Sarah Mirasol, DOLE NCR regional director, said.
