With online distance learning set for the school year, more parents are getting involved in assisting their children when it comes to finishing their daily tasks. Modules are sent for the students to study and accomplish at home, with parents and even guardians taking notice of lessons that could possibly be subject to misinterpretations. 

Jenice Ramiro is from Marinduque with a son who is in grade three. She came across her son’s English grade three module with the lesson on pronouns and nouns. She couldn’t contain her disappointment when she flipped through the page showing a family of farmers in tattered clothes, “Bakit kaya ganito ang larawan ng pamilya ng farmer? Gulagulanit ang mga damit, madungis, at may hubad pa na bata. Napakababa naman po ng pagkakalarawan nila sa magsasaka. Paano naman po natin maeengganyo ang mga bagong henerasyon na magsaka kung ganyan? Nakakasakit ng loob.” 

Jenice Ramiro’s friend Ma. Teresita Santillan couldn’t help but share in-a-now-deleted Ramiro’s post, “Bakit naman po ganito ang paglalarawan sa ating mga magigiting na magsasaka. Hindi po pulubi ang ating magsasaka, kung wala sila wala tayong pagkain. Mararangal ang ating magsasaka. Ganito po ba natin ituturo at isasalarawan ang isang magsasaka sa ating mga kabataan? Nakakadurog po kayo ng puso.” Santillan also shared with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle that she and Ramiro have been friends for quite a long time, and they both are part of many farming groups. Santillan also has an undergrad degree in agriculture which is why “mahal ko mga farmers.”

Santillan hopes that DepEd will take notice of their posts, asking friends to keep on sharing so that the ones responsible will be able to take action. “Ang ginawa ko ay para itama ang pagkakalarawan sa mga farmers at maturuan ng tamang pananaw ang mga kabataan.” As of this writing, DepEd Marinduque has been notified of Ramiro’s post.
