LOOK: Catriona Gray proudly asserts she's Filipina
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is proud to be Pinay. She reiterated this in a recent post on Instagram.

Many believe this is her reaction to the ruckus that emerged following her participation at the recently concluded Miss Universe Colombia pageant where she sat as one of the judges.
At the pageant, the technical team of the program misspelled Catriona’s surname.
The host also introduced her as an “Australian by birth” who “represented the Philippines” at the 2018 Miss Universe pageant.
Of course, this didn't sit well with her Filipino fans, who made much ado about it on social media.
This is not the first time that Catriona's Australian roots have become subject of intrigue.
A few years ago, a Brisbane-based tabloid newspaper playfully crossed out the name of the Philippines and replaced it with “Queensland” in its story on Catriona.
Note that Catriona's mother Normita Ragas Magnayon hails from Oas, Albay while her father Ian is an Australian of Scottish descent.
The model-singer-beauty queen-TV host was born in Cairns, Australia, where she also grew up.
Still, Catriona identifies as Filipina, something she made clear when she snatched the Miss Universe crown: “Philippines, what an amazing honor it has been to carry your name across my chest and to embody you in all aspects. I may now carry the sash of Miss Universe, but I’ll forever be your Miss Philippines."
