Widening works on the Lawton Avenue in Taguig City were recently completed, providing a better access to the airport, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
The newly-improved 1.34-kilometer road was inaugurated on Nov. 17, Tuesday morning.
According to Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, the improvement of the Fort Bonifacio - Nichols Field Road, most commonly known as Lawton Avenue, in Taguig City will be beneficial for motorists going to and coming from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“We are glad to inform the motoring public that their traffic woes will soon be over with the completion of this 1.34-kilometer road widening project that will provide better traffic flow, faster mobilization of goods and services, as well as a safer journey,” Villar said as he led the opening of the road.
“This newly-widened road will reduce travel time from Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by about 40 percent with its capacity to accommodate additional volume of vehicles, providing a new and safer access road to the country’s main gateway,” the secretary added.
The widening project started in August 2017 as part of the department’s traffic decongesting efforts under the “Build, Build, Build" Infrastructure Program.
Lawton Avenue compliments the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road, which includes the Lawton Avenue-Sta. Monica Bridge that has been recently connected and is targeted for full completion in 2021.
