BAGUIO CITY – The City Health Service Office reported that 20 of the city’s 128 barangay had substantial number of most coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

The CHSO said Barangay Irisan topped the list of barangays with most COVID-19 cases in the city with 154 cases, as per records of the data analysis unit of the city's contact tracing operations center.
It was followed by Lower Lourdes Subdivision with 132, and Slaughterhouse Area, 124. Both barangays experienced outbreaks in September.
The other barangays with the most cases are Bakakeng Central with 97 cases; Dominican Hill-Mirador, 76; Camp 7, 68; Fairview Village, 63; Bakakeng Norte, 58; Asin Road, 50; City Camp Proper, 50; Kias, 50; MRR Queen of Peace, 43; City Camp Central, 42; Loakan Proper, 41; Sto. Tomas Proper, 39; San Vicente, 37; Rizal Monument Area, 33; Quezon Hill Proper, 32; San Luis Village, 32; and St. Joseph Village, 31.
The COVID-19 data showed most of the cases were caused by local transmission, and clustering of cases have become common in households and in barracks, dormitories or living quarters shared by workers.
Meanwhile, with the sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 deaths in the past weeks, Mayor Benjamin Magalong advised persons with co-morbidities or pre-existing illnesses to seek early medical intervention when experiencing symptoms.
Magalong said most of those who died recently had underlying illnesses, and were already in severe condition when brought to hospitals.
"We have to be proactive. Let's not wait for symptoms to get worse before bringing them to the hospital especially if they have other illnesses and are considered high risk because by that time, it might be too late," the mayor said.
He added that early consultation was the key to prevention of death, and that they will come up with schemes to make medical consultations easily available to barangay residents, including the setting up of a hotline in coordination with a group of doctors, and enhancing monitoring of persons with known comorbidities in the barangay level and linking them with medical service providers.
CHSO reported that hypertension, diabetes, heart and lung diseases are among the common comorbidities of COVID-19.
Adult Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Thea Pamela Cajulao of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) last October sounded the alarm on the increasing number of severe COVID-19 cases in the city, especially among the elderly and those with co-morbidities.
The city recorded a total of 15 deaths on October, and seven deaths from November1 to 15.
