A 90-bed quarantine facility in Las Piñas City has been opened to accommodate cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city, the Department of Public Works and Highways said Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar led the inauguration of the newly-completed COVID-19 isolation facility on Monday, November 16.
The facility is built in a vacant lot near the Goodyear Building in Barangay Almanza.
According to Villar, who is also the isolation czar in the response against the pandemic, the offsite isolation facility is made from 26 container vans that were converted into fully air-conditioned hospital rooms with a 90-bed capacity.
“This facility follows the DPWH standard design in compliance to Department of Health (DOH) guidelines with proper ventilation and separate bath and toilet in each room,” Villar said.
It also comes with a nurse station to ensure patients are tended to while health workers are well-rested, he added.
In an event held on Nov. 16, the facility was inaugurated and turned over to the local government of Las Piñas City, which will manage the isolation center’s operations.
Earlier, a mega quarantine facility that can accommodate 600 individuals was also opened in Calamba City, Laguna.
It was turned over to the local government of Calamba last Saturday, Nov. 14.
The secretary said it is the biggest “We Heal As One '' quarantine facility in the Southern Tagalog Region.
Of the total 600 beds, 550 are intended to accommodate patients who have tested positive, and categorized as mild and asymptomatic patients. The remaining 50 units, on the other hand, are intended for the medical frontliners deployed in the facility.
