Classes from preschool to senior high school in Pasig City remain suspended until Tuesday, as thousands of households in the city are still left without electricity.

The Pasig City government announced on Sunday that Mayor Vico Sotto declared the expanded suspension of classes from preschool to senior high school, in both public and private, from November 16 to 17.

“Clearing operations continue in all barangays. Meralco is also in the process of restoring electricity throughout the city,” the local government said.

“Those who are able to continue with their asynchronous classes and modules are encouraged to do so,” it added.

Around 10,000 residents of Pasig fled their homes last week, according to Sotto, after typhoon "Ulysses" battered Metro Manila with heavy rains and strong winds.

This caused massive flooding and widespread power interruptions in several parts of the metropolis that is still reeling from the effects of a pandemic.

In a separate social media post, Sotto said the number of households in the city without electricity was now down to around 3,400 as per Meralco’s report on Sunday.

The mayor has also reached out to Manila Water to increase the water pressure in Pasig, as more use water to clean their homes and belongings following the flood.

Sotto reported that over 9,000 evacuees received grocery food packs from the local government.

He assured that flood victims who were not able to go to the evacuation centers will also receive relief goods from the city.

“Tapos na ang bagyo pero ingat pa rin po tayo! Nasa gitna pa rin po tayo ng krisis (The storm is over but let's still be careful! We are still in the middle of a crisis),” Sotto had said earlier.

“Mataas pa rin ang bilang ng COVID. ‘Wag kalimutan ang health protocols, lalo na sa pagsuot ng mask (The number of COVID-19 cases is still high. Don't forget to observe health protocols, especially the wearing of masks),” he added.
