Metro universities on academic break for one week due to 'Ulysses' aftermath

Several universities have announced a week-long suspension of classes following the onslaught of Typhoon “Ulysses.”

Starting this week, classes at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), and the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) will be suspended to allow affected students and teachers to recover from the impact of recent calamities that hit the country.

From Nov. 16 - 21, synchronous and asynchronous classes and activities will be suspended in ADMU and UST.

Synchronous classes in ADMU will remain suspended from Nov. 23 to Nov. 28, but asynchronous activities will already resume.

ADMU, in a memo shared by the university's student publication The Guidon on Sunday, also encouraged its faculty members to “keep academic requirements to a minimum,” and be “extra considerate and flexible with deadlines for academic requirements.”

PUP will take an “academic break” from Nov. 16 to Nov. 27.

For PUP College of Law, however, the class suspension will only be until Nov. 22.

“This means that all synchronous and asynchronous activities will be suspended. Faculty members are also advised to move the deadlines of submissions of all academic requirements,” PUP announced Sunday on its official Twitter page.

De La Salle University (DLSU) has eased its academic workload for this week.

Faculty members of DLSU were likewise encouraged to “reduce the time allotted for, or even forego synchronous sessions for the week.”

“If synchronous sessions are needed, consider moving them to Wednesday or later,” read a memo from Dr. Robert Roleda, Vice Chancellor for Academics of DLSU, shared by The LaSallian on Saturday.
